What is a Funeral Plan?
A funeral plan is a way to arrange and pay for your funeral in advance, ensuring your wishes are respected while protecting your family from future financial and emotional strain. It allows you to lock in today’s prices, avoiding the impact of rising funeral costs, and provides peace of mind by removing the burden of decision-making from loved ones during a difficult time.
With flexible options to suit different preferences and budgets, you can personalise the service and be confident that the agreed costs cover all essential elements, leaving no unexpected expenses for your family.
What’s Included in a Funeral Plan?
Every funeral plan should cover the full cost of the selected service. All the following features are included in our prepaid funeral plans as standard.
Please note: features marked with a * are not included in the direct cremation Copper Plan but are in our other funeral plans.
- Cremation or burial
- A coffin suitable for the funeral
- Chapel of Rest for family and friends to visit*
- Funeral Director’s professional services, allocated by Golden Leaves
- Advice on funeral registration, documentation and certification
- Collection from place of death to Funeral Director within 25 miles (during normal working hours)
- Care of the deceased before the funeral
- Conductor and four pallbearers at the funeral plus hearse*
- Bereavement counselling (where available)
How Much Does a Funeral Plan Cost?
The cost of a funeral plan can vary depending on the type of service you want, the level of personalisation, and the provider you choose. Generally, prepaid funeral plans are priced based on what’s included. For example, whether the plan covers a simple cremation, a traditional funeral service or additional options, such as a hearse, limousine or special requests.
At Golden Leaves, our funeral plans start from £1,700, offering a flexible and affordable way to secure your arrangements in advance. Each plan is designed to cover the essential funeral costs with options to tailor the service according to your wishes and budget.

How to Pay for a Funeral Plan
Golden Leaves offers flexible payment options to suit your budget. You can choose to pay for your funeral upfront or spread the cost by paying monthly over a fixed term.
Monthly payments typically span 1 to 5 years. The option to pay by Direct Debit makes it easier to manage the financial commitment.
1. Single payment
- The whole sum is paid immediately, and full cover starts once the welcome call is completed
- No health checks
- No age restrictions
- You can cancel your funeral plan within 30 days or within 7 days of us telling you who your funeral director is (if this is later). You’ll get all your money back
- If you cancel after this, you’ll get your money back, but we’ll deduct a £325 charge for administration
2. 12-month instalments
- A deposit is paid, and the remaining balance is spread over 12 months
- Accidental death cover commences immediately after the welcome call
- Full cover commences after 12 months
- No age restrictions
- You can cancel your funeral plan at any time in the 12 months and get back everything you’ve paid.
- If you cancel after this, you’ll get your money back, but we’ll deduct a £325 charge for administration.
- This payment option is not available if you have been advised by a doctor of a condition or illness that will cause death within 12 months of applying for a plan.
3. Credit-financed*
- Credit agreement arranged with Funeral Safe Limited (subject to status and affordability)
- Payment duration is between 2 to 8 years
- Full cover commences immediately after the welcome call
- Should you die during your regulated credit agreement, your lender will not pursue your estate or whoever took out your financial arrangement for you for the outstanding balance
- This payment option is not available if you have been advised by a doctor of a condition or illness that will cause death within 12 months of applying for a plan.
Important information that you should know
What happens to the money I paid for my plan?
We help many thousands of customers to plan and fund their funerals. Because of economies of scale, we can sell our Plans to our customers at a rate which is usually far more cost effective than it would be for them buying from a funeral director at the time of the funeral itself. As a commercial enterprise, we have costs of doing business and promotional marketing. These costs are met by supply side economies of scale delivered by our ability to purchase funerals in bulk and are consequently absorbed into the price of our Plans.
We retain an amount from the price paid by you for your Plan (which is currently £325) to cover our administrative costs of running the business for the life of each Plan, which is approximately 11 years. We also retain an amount (which currently ranges between £400 and £934 dependent on which plan you purchase) to cover marketing, sales fulfilment expenses and to provide the business with an element of profit. The balance is placed in the Trust in order to pay the Appointed Funeral Director and other costs of the agreed funeral (for further information, please see our Commission and Payment Disclosure and refer to our fees and payments breakdown summary table for further details.
*This is a loan and is subject to status and personal circumstances, so you’re not guaranteed to be accepted. You must keep up payments on this: if you miss payments, your plan may be cancelled. If you select this option, you will be provided with pre-contract credit information, adequate explanations and a credit agreement directly by Funeral Safe Limited. You will have a cooling-off period, which is longer than 30 days from the date of the onboarding call or 7 days from when we tell you who the allocated funeral director is. During this period, you can cancel the purchase of your funeral and receive a full refund of any money you have paid to that date. If you cancel after this point, we’ll pay back the cost of your plan to Funeral Safe, but we’ll keep a £325 charge for administration. You must repay your finances to Funeral Safe Limited before your 85th birthday.
